hello there, havent posted for a long time but have still been reading.

a couple of things have happened, i lost my blue dwarf gourami in an unusual circumstance, he was eating and wa very healthy as are the other fish when suddenly he turned a funny color, keeled over and died, almost instantly, i was in just shock. can fish choke?

the girlfriend has been discussing maybe changing the carpet and i was wondering how to move the tank and the fish? any suggestions or methods that have worked in the past would be appreciated

i think that was all.... thanks

What kind of size tank is it? With my 3 ft I usually empty it to a low water level (about 10-15%) and then take ornaments out, leave fish in and my brothers and dad al lift it out.

EDIT: Don't think my method would work..

Sorry no idea on the gourami

haha yea.... i did suggest to cutting round the carpet at the bottom of the tank cabinet.... haha

its 260l

you should empty a tank completely before lifting unless you want to crack the base

If you want an easy life, cut around the cabinet.

You can empty the tank but it's a lot of hassle and stress on the fish.

I'm about to change my substrate and have to empty my tank, got to admit i'm not looking forward to the damage i MAY cause, loads of buckets and a quick turn around is what i hope for.

Also think of how much you'd save by not having to buy so much carpet!!!

one problem though puppyjess is that, the tank was heavy enough on its own let alone any of the water, gravel, plants and wood and fish now involved in there.

i would empty it a few weeks before the new carpet (if you go ahead) is fitted. then move it back when done. but im sure your girlfriend wouldnt want you sloshing water over the new one :P

daft question, what do i move it in to? and will filter and fish etc etc be ok?

its very heavy!

All depends on how long it takes, like i said earlier i'm changing my substrate soon, and have been advised to put fish in buckets, filter running in a bucket with a couple of fish, and the heater in another bucket of tank water, BUT not to take too long, i was advised 3 hours MAX, someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

Hope this helps.

Mark.
