Hi i am new to this forum and have a few questions i used to have full tropical set up but after settling down with the missus she made me put it in storage well iv got it back out. and set it up and my questions are:

1: i bought an 8kg bag of fine gravel (nearly sand ) rinsed it as best i could and it made the tank realy cloudy been 24 hours and its settled a bit i can just make out the heater at the back should i do a water change or just leave it a few more days.

2: my filter is a aqua pro 1 external filter any thoughts on these filter are they any good or should i buy a better one

3: my frend has a sand stone rock in his tank looks realy good so i put one from his garden in a bucket of boiling water and it fizzes under water are these safe to add to a tank

thanks for any help in advance :)

Yes, that would help :) Or you could just leave it be for a while.

I have an AquaPro 3, they're ok. How big is your tank?

That's just air coming out of it. Personally, I will not use any rock which doesn't pass the "acid test" (put some vinegar on it: does it fizz? yes: fail; no: pass). You also need to be careful because if he uses fertilisers or weed killer in his garden, it may have soaked into the rock and could be very harmful to your fish.

Please don't forget to do a fishless cycle before adding any to the tank!

Hmm, I would say that you need a bigger filter on that tank.. I have mine (1000lph as opposed to your 600lph) on a 200L tank and it's barely enough! I would recommend either an upgrade to what I have or equivalent (Eheim make very nice and expensive ones *wub*).. just one question: don't those tanks have an inbuilt internal filter?

yes they do but i dont rate it plus i need to buy new media also do you know how the filter media is set up in the aqua pro1 cus i dont think mine is working properly thanks for any help

The inbuilt filter in combimation with your AquaPlus 1 should be very good if you do go for that..

There are a number of baskets inside the filter, yes? Into the baskets you put whatever media is best for your set up. For example, in one basket I have sponges starting from coarse going to fine and in the other I have only ceramic noodles.
