I've got a few questions about the water quality. Will the substrate (its aragonite sand) and salt mix (Instant Ocean mix) buffer the water to natural proportions (i.e. the pH, dH, alkalinity)? Also, would a fish ever get sucked into the powerhead intake? I've had a Red-Eye Tetra (FW) get sucked into one before, but that was because I had the strainer taken off. Would that ever happen in a SW tank or are the fish too strong of swimmers? Also, would it be a good idea to put a piece of sponge or filter like that on the PH intake as a sort of quick filter? Thanks!

Yes aragonite and the salt will buffer everything

No, a fish wont get sucked into a powerhead - unless it is unwell.

You can put a sponge on the intake if you want - but there should be no real need to.

never say never, but in my freshwater tanks, 1 day old platy fry swim alongside intakes and never have any problems.

I suppose if you had seahorses or something and put really powerful powerheads in they could be in trouble.
