I had a coconut the other night and managed to get a good size piece of the shell left, i saw on another post someone made a cave/arch out of one....i assume you have to smooth it off...does it need treating? or can u just bung it in?....lol

and

i know you should have a hospital tank...how big should this be...and can it double as a nursery??

as far as I know all you need to do is clean out the inside, then pour boiling water over it. I am thinknig of doing something similar myself

This? I cut the openings in the shell then sanded down all the edges untill they were smooth to the touch. Then I sanded down the outside and tore off all the strands. I then cleaned the inside taking ALL coconut out and anything I could scrape off. Then I boiled the shells twice.

Happy to help.

I'm planning on doing coconut caves too. I'm gonna drill some tiny holes in them and attach plants.

Dont boil the caves the fibres will turn to mush, alot of fish like caves to feel secure for this reason you want the opening fairly small.
