Just readin thru some fishy stuff, and came accross this :

"Always cull, petshops will always be happy to purchase your culls."

I havent got a clue what a cull is ? lol am i just dumb or what ? :D :p

not dumb. i think a cull is the unwanted fish. crossbreeds, deformed fish. pet shops will feed them to their fish for live food when fry.

Correct, or for weaker/deformed fish or even if you don't like the colour of the young :( especially true with guppies now if pro breeders don't get the offspring they want and can work with they just cull them bit harsh really. :look:

Yup, thats rite, i just looked it up! :p :/

Absolutly correct....

Culling is a regular practice among MOST breeders. Although some breeders do not.

The ones that don't usually are not very reputable.

Culling is a necessary evil in order to keep the strains strong.

When I was breeding fish, I would cull the weaker/deformed fry regularly. However, there were times I would miss one or two and not notice it until the fish was older.

In this event I would NOT destroy the fish, but place it in a tank I labled "Missed Culls". These fish were allowed to live out their lives in this tank. These fish were NEVER sold even though I did have some that people actually wanted to buy. They thought they were unique.

I know I am just an old softy. Never really did like culling fish.
