A Couple Of Questions..

Hello folks. Im new to this forum and fishkeeping and would like a couple of questions answered please.

First of all I have heard people talk of tropical fish and marine fish. What is the difference between the two please?

Secondly my girlfriend has asked me if we can have a certain fish in our tank. She described it as a fish walking on stilts!. I have seen these in the past but im unsure what they are called.

I appreciate any response to my questions.

Marine fish live in slatwater, tropical fish mostly live in freshwater. And I think the fish you are talking about is a mudskipper? http/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mudskipper

Marine fish are saltwater fish, tropical fish are freshwater fish, then there are brackish fish which require a certain salilnity of salt.

Whichever you decide upon you will need to cycle your tank first, the best way to do this is a fishless cycle, which if you have a look thru the pinned topics in the new to the hobby section is fully explained and the best way to prepare your tank for fish, without the need to put the fish thru the problems of ammonia and nitrIte which is inevitable if you cycle a tank with fish.

Whichever you decide upon, please ask lots of questions regarding tank size and compatiblity to save you the problems associated with setting up your first tank, lots of people here will be happy to help you. Welcome to TFF and hopefully to fishkeeping
