Hi everybody,
Remember this charming girl?

Unfortunately, she just wasn't the same cat after the 4th of July. The fireworks really did a number on her. The other kittens forgot within a day, but Lucy was severely traumatized. She was very unhappy in my home, and I felt terrible for her, and I was frustrated that I couldn't really help her despite my efforts. I was still going to keep her, nobody's perfect, but she was not the loving pet I used to know. I had resigned myself to feeding and caring for an aloof and unaffectionate animal. She would even bite me when I fed her, in addition to breaking things, skulking in a corner, and lashing out at my dogs and other human family members. I was no longer her mama, a source of grief for me, as we had been through a lot (severe flea infestation, a bout of clamydia, etc).
Well, a co-worker of my sister's came to visit the other day, and Lucy completely changes. She came out of her corner and went and sat next to my sister's friend, where she proceeded to purr and play with the co-worker. She hadn't purred for over a month! She turned into the lovable cat she was before the 4th of July. As it turns out, my sister's friend recently lost her cat, and I guess Lucy sensed the loss, never leaving her side the entire time she visited. They both seemed so happy that we asked the lady if she would like to keep Lucy. She would only need to be spayed, and she had all of her shots. The lady was very touched and agreed, so she picked up Lucy Yesterday. Funny, Lucy, who hates going into the carrier, walked into the carrier on her own that day. She knew. I am very happy that Lucy found the home she deserved. Sometimes, you have to adjust to the fact that despite all your love, attention, and caring, your home may not be the best home for a pet. Our house has changed too. The tension that permeated after July 4th is gone, and all the pets are much more relaxed, but especially my 7-year-old cat and the dogs. One unhappy pet seemed to have made everybody unhappy. She needed the peace and quiet that my sister's co-worker could provide. Our home, with birds, fish, dogs, and other cats, is a loud, loud, home!
We miss Lucy, I cried a lot that day, but we are very, very happy that she formed a special bond with her new owner.
Just thought I'd share, as I haven't updated on the progress of the kittens in a long time. Now you know why.
