Ok, so i walked into my room to find my male betta wrapped around my female and doing the tip upside down and drop an egg thing with her.
He has only a very small bubble nest, infact its just a line of bubbles an edge of the tank and a little bit in the plants. I see him catching the egg as it drops from the female... but wondering if he is just eating it??? does this happen much/at all? or is he holding it in his mouth for a few moments befor blowing it in a bubble? as i cant see the white dot of an egg in the bubbles.

Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

 You keep them together then? Interesting...

If he doesn't have a very good bubble nest then this batch may be a failed job but yes this all sounds normal he'll catch a few eggs and then pop them back up into his bubble nest.

Yeah i had the female in the tank for a week befor adding the male, been together only 10 days or so... with no fighting or anything like that (i was going to move the female to my community tank if their was any issues). the male seems very placid and laid back as theirs a few guppys in their and cherry shrimp, and so fat the populations are still up to 100% lol

But i the issue i'm conserned with is the lack of a bubble nest or atleast a substantial sized one. My gouramis just bred in my community tank with a fast flow mind and that bubble nest was huge, like a floating bubbly tennis ball.

Is it worth trying to syphon the eggs up and to a different container or tank? or do they need the attendance of the male?
Sorry for the 101 questions but just trying to learn the ins and outs, as alot of info online just skims over the top, where you guys have personal experiences.

mmm I would leave them be actually he will look after them the best he can, and maybe this was a trial run and he'll make a better nest next time :/ Is the water in your tank calm enough for a nest?

I've noticed some of my males don't build bubblenests until after the spawning process takes place. I've bred bettas multiple times but every time Ive had an egg eater. Usually the male will catch the eggs in his mouth or pick them off of the ground. Then place them in the nest.... In your case. He will most likely build a bubble then place them...

i think the water is fairly calm in that corner, and i have a little section where i have plants suspended near the surface across the string. I will keep a eye on them every now and then and see what happens then i'll update the progress, i have a couple of photos i can upload when i get it sorted

If your male is catching eggs and dealing with them, it will work out as well as it could. A male is far better at defining what his potential fry need than we are. I know that sounds backward since we are the ones with the big brains and the historical information but trust that male to know what he is doing. Siphoning off eggs will almost always result in failure. Let the poor guy do what he can to care for his eggs. You have made his task harder by having other fish in the tank but the eggs stand no chance at all without his care.
