I recently won a tank on ebay, the other half went to collect it. When he came back i inspected it and although the veneer is perfect, the glass is just awful! Its scratched everywhere!! Why dont people have a bit of sense and remove the gravel from behind the cleaner
On top of that, i removed the inbuilt filter (Juwel Rio 125), and it was absolutely full of snails! He'd given an amazon sword too - well, that went straight in the bin!
Im so annoyed that my other half even brought it home - i would have left it!

(Q: is there something i can use to remove/lessen scratches?)

Its a type of plant not fish.
Once the tank is filled up with water the scratches are alot less visible. I think you can polish them out but it weakens the glass or something like that.

 oh i was confused then

Nah the scratches are very visible  The light catches them and emphasises them if anything  Ive left the guy bad feedback, im not impressed at all

Heres the extent of the scratches

Wish we'd just bought mattlee's 180l now

Your right that is quite bad. Not sure theres much you can do really. Is it just the front panel?

It it not an option to sit the tank back to front? You might have things such as manufacturer labels facing a wall, or even filter pipe inlet-dips on the front then, but the scratches would be on the back and can be hidden by all sorts. Moss walls, plants, black backing paint (not paper). Its an option.

Can you not take it back and tell him it really is utterly appalling? A business would get done for false advertising if they sold it like that and didnt mention it. Depends how he listed it and what he put.

Thats what i was thinking when i asked is it just the front thats scratched.

If it really annoys you you could try relapsing the front panel with a new piece of glass but that will be a pain to do and its probably going to cost just as much as buying another tank of ebay.

i feel for you my 240L has a few scratches and i hate it for it  just to rub salt into your wounds my rio 180 is as new..... :/
i think repair or professional polishing may cost as much a another 2nd hand tank im affraid. i doubt you would get the amount back if you were to sell it on as it would only suit a breeder or be usefull for a quarentine tank!
turning it round may be the best option, you will have the cut outs facing you but im sure you could live with that rather than the scratches. unless you are running an external on it of course....

well, i stuck it on ebay and someone is interested in it! ive listed it warts and all too!

unfortunately the scratches are on every pane, everywhere :S
I would take it back but it was a fair old drive, and i dont wanna waste any petrol tbh!

the original listing said good condition with a few scratches. the other half didnt bother inspecting it before chuckin it in the care either :grr:

Matt, if the tank does sell, its being picked up on sunday, so we may well be making a trip up there. i defo want a 180 - 125 is just too small

UPDATE Its sold :hyper:

you wouldnt believe, its Star4 from on here! Crazy!
Anyway, we would love your tank matt :) Star is coming on Sunday 11am, so sunday afternoon? You still selling for £65?
and those lovely corys, will they get any bigger, or are they around the same size as bronze corys? Coz i have 5 bronze now. I was gonna put them in the betta tank, but its a calm tank, 12 neons and mr betta, and i think the corys might disturb it lol. but i would like some more!
Dont suppose you want a CAE do you?

:X :X :X Oh dear, what bad scratches! :X
BTW is the Amazon Sword in the tank yours or did it come with the tank

Have a look here fluffy.
Carl

The sword is mine, why?

yeah the tank is now at £65 :good: the corys are fully grown adult size and about 2 inches and in good health.
doesnt star4 live in birmingham or there abouts? maybe we can arrange something to save her going all the way to you and then you following her all the way to me..... im about half way between you both (maybe slightly closer to brum)if you want to try sort something out  just a thought!

let me know anyway ill be in sunday and ill get the kettle on if you decide to come ;)
