hello, my friend is getting a 5 gallon tank and he wants to know what he can put in it. i have told him that he should at least get a 10 gallon but i guess he can only get a 5 gallon. and probably the only thing he can put in there is a betta but he still wants me to ask you guys for any suggestions. and ill try to convince him to get a 10 gallon. but in the mean time any suggestions are good.

:thanks:

Not an expert but here is what I would think might fit
1 betta, shrimp, dwarf cory, a few male guppies, ADF's, killie fish, snails, possibly a couple dwarf platy's
that's all I can think of at the moment.
I had a 5 gallon with 2 female dwarf platy's and 2 panda cory's and a hand full of ghost shrimp, seemed to be a good setup for me and the fish seemed to like it. I now have a male betta in an unfiltered 5 gallon setup.

ghost shrimp are a very nice addition, especially to a smaller sized tank like that.

Dwarf cories, and danios both require larger groups and more swim room than what a 5 gallon provides...Danios especially!

Some species of Killifish can go in small tanks, but a good selection of Killifish are not commonly available in most LFS and both bettas and certain species of Killifish can have territorial leanings. Some bettas do not like being kept in tanks with other fish. I think a nicely planted 5 gallon with a betta and some inverts like shrimp and a mystery/apple snail would be nice. Be forewarned however that some bettas will eat (or attempt to eat) shrimp.

I agree with Aphotic Phoenix, most fish do require a bigger size tank than 5 Gallons as they need the swimming space. I think a Betta would be fine in that size tank. :good:

I am that friend. I have limited space. and i have like 100 dollars to spend. I am a beginer, but would just like a tank cause my friend who wrote this has one, and i think that it would be really cool. I really want to get maybe a 15 gallon one. i think thats best. I am just going to be putting in neon tetra, and maybe some other fishes.

I think that i am going to get a 10 gallon instead. i have the room for it. thnkx everyone for your advice.
