Hi again. I was in the fish shop yesterday to ask if he can get me some of the fish discussed in the other thread. As you know I started off wanting an Oscar and building around that. I was swayed away from this idea because the Green Terror I had my heart set on and the Jack Dempsey might be too aggressive. Anyway I was in the shop yesterday and I seen an amazing Oscar, white with red and black markings looks great and healthy at around 4/4.5" so I bought him and put him in my 30gal I had just emptied, he's on his own and it's only for 2 weeks at most so...

Now my question is, I am gonna put him in my 90gal obviously, definately with a Jack Dempsey, convict, Firemouth(possibly, not really that bothered) and a Blue Acara and 5 Siver Dollars.

How does this sound? Everything else I buy will be no bigger than 3" so I;m hoping the JD wont try an bully the Oscar and the rest should be pretty placid in comparison is what I'm thinking.

I am going to overfiltrate it and I'm looking for a good showpiece catfish to go in it now. I read a post on a shovelnose that gows to 12" max in another thread, does anyone have any other suggestions for this kind of fish tgo go in?

Btw at the first sign of any carnage the guy who owns the fish shop said he will take it back so I'm ok there.

Thx in advance. Getting excited now, should be up an running by the 20th, cant wait an I will deffo post pics.

If you really have your heart set on the Oscar, then I would dump the blue acar and the idea of a cat. With the O, JD, FM, and con plus the silver dollars, that plenty for your tank. Honeslty, I've heard acar's can be on the nastier side and a shovelnose cat can also be aggressive too. I think with the Oscar, this cuts your other stocking ideas.

If you cut the oscar out, then you can have everything else I think. Just depends on whether you really feel you really need to Oscar in that tank or not.

Considering the oscar needs 75g minimum alone, I don't see how you can add 5 more cichlids AND schooling fish to a 90g. I would pick 1 cichlid at the very most and the silver dollars. As for the catfish, a shovelnose isnt suitable and my only other experience is with plecs, which wouldn't be advisable either given the size of tank and potential waste from the oscar. Maybe some clown loaches if your tank dimensions are suitable?

Realistically, a convict, jd, sds, and an oscar might be a little much for a 90g..

I understand that you are planning on overfiltering, but aggression wise you'd be lucky to find a jd and convict that will get along with an oscar, and get along together too..

I cant really think of any type of catfish that would be fine with an oscar other then large clown loaches, which I'm sure many people will tell you shouldn't be kept in 90g tanks...

You might be able to get away with the jd, oscar, and 5 sds... but I don't see a convict and catfish all working out together.
