80gal Oddball

Have you decided on the mid-swimmers yet? :)

No...Not yet, Still looking around for one that really catches my eye.

wouldn't most pimelodus species be at risk of being eaten with those eels?
a nice synodontis catfish would look nice in there. unless you are sticking purely to oddballs.

whens your BGK coming in then? :shifty:

I'm trying to stick it just oddballs unless I find a fish I absolutely need/want.
I should be getting the BGK in another week or two. I'm going to get the eels eating well first, before I stock anything else. Though, I may be getting the ABF fairly soon.

Very nice!
I like the way your tank is plain and simple!(in a very good way!) :good:

Thanks mate, but...IT won't be that bare for long if I have anything to do with it. I'm going to get some more wood into there, and a hell of a lot more plants. It's still going to be pretty open, but I need to create many hiding spots as most of the fish I want are nocturnal/need hiding space.

what are ABF's?

you could have had my BGK, he's gettin a little too big for my tank, but you live all the way in america lol

african butterfly fish are great additions... for the first few weeks. after that, they become really really boring.
they swim around for the first few weeks and eventually find a spot in the tank where water circulation is at the lowest level and they just sit there... forever!! :shout: or until you feed them which is when they're at their most active and they proper stuff themselves.

people say they're loads like arowanas but they're nothing like them! arowanas seem to swim around and stay active, these fish don't. they just look like floating sticks lol i think your tank may be too small for an arowana though... thats if they take your fancy

but if you want an african butterfly fish, try it out... you can always take it back if you don't like it lollz

I've heard they're like aros too...What a load of crock :D. I know that they're just gonna sit there and be a lump on a log, and I'm fine with that, because I like the fish. They're a nifty looking fish, and if they don't do much, that's perfectly fine. When was the last time you saw a Dali paining leap from the wall and start doing gymnastics? ;)

Though, in my original plan for the tank, I was to keep two of them...however as you said, they would find the spot with the least flow (back left corner) and stay there. So even though there is enough of a footprint for two - they would potentially fight for that one spot.

And though I do like aros... The tank is no-where near large enough for one. I plan on starting a tank at some point that will be large enough for an aro for life. Thus being multiple hundreds of gallons in volume; but, this won't come to fruition for a good few many years.

nice tank

I had a similar problem looking for mid swimmers as mines like a deserted tank sometiomes with all nocturnal and hidey fish

I've had a royal plec and bichir and reedfish together for about two years with no probs but then he gets lots of courgette and stuff so I'd get him and if hes a rogue fish you will not struggle finding a new owner

I'd go for the siver dollars, a little group would look nice and they'd remain active

My birthday gift:
my camera sucks so please excuse the crappy pictures.

And I can't find all three eels...only the little black guy, and the biggest one...No idea if the other has jumped or is hiding....

Next addition to the tank will be more plants... They have this awesome amazon sword plant out there that's about...8in-1ft in total diameter.

As a bit of an update...

I think, for mid-level strata fish, I'm going to buy a pair of Melanotaenia boesemani and a small swarm of silver dollars.
