is this idea doomed from the start? if not..what species of killi? i've never had killis, and i fancy something different when i re-set up one of my 8 gallon aqua one 320s in the next few months.

(london water is so hard that you can get concussion just by washing your hair..kidding...but no it's pretty hard and pH around 7.8)

From a guess you will be looking at aquireing a colourful species of Killifish if you decide to proceed. Unfortunatly most of the colourful species require soft water and a lower pH. I have sent Aphyosemion australe to Bloo on this forum and she's from the London area, and I know from her that London water is rubbish for keeping tropical fish that require soft water. Have a word with her and see how she copes.
Other than that you will have to stump up some cash for water treatment products or you could try collecting rainwater from a sheet of corrugated plastic roofing and channel it via some guttering and into a water butt. But again you might be risking it as it may have collected airborne pollutants being a heavily industrial area. You will have to test this though and mix with a little tap to obtain the correct stats.
lets know how you get on
