Ok for those who do not know. My 75usg reef tank crashed about 2-3 weeks ago. It was due to a water contamination from my lfs. At first it seemed like i was just going to lose all i had put in to the tank(money-wise). But then the owner of the lfs called me and told me how sorry and responsible he felt about my aquarium. He gave me about 70 pounds of live rock, a few fish, new chemicals, and a huge discount on anything from his store for the next 6-8 months. I lost everything except for my trumpet coral from the original tank. With the new tank I have already had hair algea and cyanobacteria outbreaks. The livestock that came with the tank is, 11 turbo snails, 1 tomato clown fish, a bunch of small snails, a couple cerith snails, and group of zoa polyps. I have added 3 turbos, a lawnmower blenny, and a sixline wrasse that was given to me today.

Today i purchased some ammonia and some phosphate reducing filter media. Hopefully this will lower my phosphates and get rid of the cyano. Im kinda stumped on the hair algae. For 3 days now my nitrate tests have read 0 ppm. and the stuff is still growing. :/

do you wonder if maybe the lfs water has a phosphate problem? You still getting water from them?

Llj I think it mightve been a sponge that i removed earlier today. It was a huge black mass  . I just think it was a sponge. It had some STANK!!!

And I thought a little snail dying was stinky and gross. A trochus a while back got flipped and died while I spent time with my sisters. Absolute ickiness!!!!!

Well, at least you maybe know know what the algae was feeding on. They don't mind stank!

Of course they dont mind it because they are stanky  and snails are some of the nastier things i have smelled

I mixed some frozen food today. I mixed plankton and brineshrimp. Would it be a bad idea to put a little bit of beef heart in it?

I don't personally, but wait and see what others say.

Ok I just have some left over from my last frshwater tank.

There's a whole bunch of great frozen foods.. ocean nutrition is a brand with great ones like brine shrimp plus, formula 1 etc. They also have formula 2 which is strictly a veggie mix, absolutely amazing. Mysis is good too :)
