75 gallon...currently have lots of fishes but doesnt seem like it , which i love it ;)

thinking of going with substrates or sand to replace the gravels..

and possibly more plants hopefully ;)...

cant decide if i want to trade in some tiger barbs and get more angel fish or trade all the community fishes in for something else...

so If i want to go with the sand..and if i get sand from the beach..how would i make it work safe for my tank ? Have anybody tried and made it work?

Thank you

I really want to replace the gravels to sand..and i wonder if i can use sand from the beach if i rinse or boil? ...

I thought of substrates but so expensive ><

I wouldn't use beach even if cleaned well... never know what could be lurking in there!

You can use play sand which is very cheap. I bought 25lbs for $6. Found at your local hardware store... probably gardening store as well. If you're in Canada I bought mine at both home depot and canadian tire. :good:

edit: I also vote community.

i live in california and I am not sure how much play sand is but i don't think its too bad..wouldnt I have to like de tox it though?..like i should not just dump the sand right into the tank right?..what do i have to do ? ><

Dump the sand in a clean pail (I have a pail I use just for fish tank) Leave tap water running in the pail til the water clears, I occasionally stir the sand, careful u dont lose a lot of sand tho. I'd use water same temperature as your tank too.

No you don't, and it won't affect pH. Just leave it in a pail with running water, as Hunterprey said. I like to do a little bit of sand at a time to make sure everything is rinsed thoroughly. If you don't rinse your water will be brown.
