I currently have a 74ltr glass tank, housing 4 goldfish i know 4 goldfish is too many for that size so i plan to give all 4 fish to someone who can care for them properly with a big enough tank, so i was thinking when ive done this i might turn my 74ltr into a betta tank, i know its pretty big for just a betta, but i'd love to create more room for shimmer and have lots and lots of plants and make it all so itneresting, even thinking about it makes me want to start it now!
I could even divide it and have 2 bettas but i just want to have shimmer in all that space himself, is it better to be in a bigger tank ?
I would just love to see him so happy with lots of room and with loads to do in the tank,I love shimmer so much!
Please leave any comments/advice.

So thats about 15+ Gallons? Isn't that too much? 5 Gallons is already pretty good enough.

that is a huge tank! I would suggest dividing into 3 and having 3 bettas in there. More space the better but not sure if that would freak him out a little much. YOu could also go with just 2 if wanted to try and see.

i would go 3 bettas divided
filtering is and water flow is quite easy to achieve in divided tank with just one filter

this was my 60litre divided

Some may say just 5g is enough ( and it is) but if you want to treat Shimmer (as I know you do ;)) then I would suggest the one divide and split that to 9.5 gallons each, which is still massively roomy but it will be a luxury. I have Calcifer in a 10g but have added a frog (also planning on a second frog) so depending on Shimmer and the second betta you get could always have tankmates. Also you may not want a second betta in the second 9.5g and wish to go with another type of fish/es. Just ensure they have much the same needs in water hardness and temperature :)

p.s. also to costing to give idea, dividers cost about £6-£10 depending on size, you would need to ensure filtration and the heating can reach all areas of the tank, etc. I divded my 14g and there have been no problems so far. :good:

dividers in MA are £4.99 each
no need to worry about the water circulating if you set it up like i had mine as the water is getting fed into the end section so it has to flow back through the other sections to the filter as has no where else to go
also has 2 small spray bar holes in each section to just give a gentle bit of surface aggitation

ah sorry pippoodle didnt see your post before mine sorry! That does look a good setup. Just ensure that the tube sits smug and get a big enough hole in each of the dividers. Are they tiny holes in each of the divided parts so as not to affect the flow too much?

i got it set up differently now as been using it as my breeding tank now only 2 sections a small one houing the filter so very slow circulation of water and minimal movement in breeding section) - tube now removed

Pipoodle, Very impressive Tank!!!
I get the idea now, and i will only be doing this tank idea in about 3 months or more, so i have time to plan and get the money together.
I only want it split into 2 i think so theres more room.
I'm going to go for a natural look, using bogwood, and lots and lots of plants, i can plan it out in the next few months, but firstly i have to rehome the goldfish.
Any ideas on what i could do with the tank?

I spoke to my mum about converting the tank into a divided tank shes going to think about it.
Obviously if this does happen then it will be in atleast a few months.
I'm going to start planning plants to get, divider ideas ( i need a small divided section for the filter and heater? )
I have alot of questions lol!

No such thing as too much.

Do you have a picture of the tank? ( even with the goldfish in it as it is now ) that will help us to help you plan how to do it.

I've got my betta in a 60 litre and when he was just in there with his 3 tetra tank mates, the tank looked really empty. I planted it up really nicely but unless he was sitting at the front, it was a pretty boring tank. I've now got 4 more neon tetras, 4 corys and a shrimp, and the tank is really interesting. Everyone gets on really well, and Oz has LOADS of space, even with his tank mates.
