70 Litre Tank - Ideas Please

Dwarf Cichlids - Apistogramma Hongsloi or Cactuoides or Agassizii or Macmasteri

Didn't think of that, really nice colours. I'll pop along to local places and see if they have any :) If I was to get a bigger tank in the next couple of months, would peacock gobies be suitable tank mates with the dwarf cichlids, or shall I forget the gobies if I go with the cichlids?

If the cichlids start breeding then they'll get a bit territorial, but otherwise, I don't see any problems behaviour-wise. The only thing is that the gobies tend to hang around the bottom of the tank as do the cichlids (although neither exclusively), so along with the cories, you'd be a bit bottom heavy (as it were). But that's only aesthetics.

Cheers, is it possible to have two males or two females to stop breeding? Would like some top swimmers, but the tank lacks a little colour at the moment (and bigger fish) so I think that's a sacrifice to make.

Females tend to be duller in colour. 2 Males - hmm, depends on the species. Maybe go for a single male?

Lyretail killiish are good coloured top-dwellers. Males are again more colourful than females.

The killifish looks nice, what about one of those, and one dwarf cyclid? Provide a bit of variety then. Now I bet nowhere will stock them....ha ha

You'll be able to find the cichlids easily enough. The killi is probably the most common one in the hobby, but may be a little harder to source.

Cheers, picked up a really nice looking male dwarf cichlid earlier, I didn't get a female for the moment as (I know it sounds horrible) the females are a bit boring looking. Would a single male be happy enough on his own, or do I really need a partner for him? I told the staff at the LFS what I had in my tank, and they seem to think I could add 5-6 cardinals or something as well. This seemed optimistic to me in a 70ltr, do you agree? Would love some more colour but think that's pushing it.

Which species cichlid did you get?

To recap on your stock, you've got 5 mixed cories (standard sized ones, not dwarfs), 5/6 CPDs and the cichlid?

If that's right, then 6 Cardinals would be about your maximum. Also worth considering would be neons, green neons or glowlight tetra, or 4 male endlers.

Agassizii, almost looks the same as this one http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQhoyqs7gV0a9sZ5dp5dpkgUAut8xLxBrgn2dLDZteYb3ad2aeH0DffgS1QcA . As for my stock, that's right, 5 cories, 5 cpds and the cichlid.

What I said before then, plus another CPD - 6 is acknowledged as the smallest shoal size for shoaling species.

Excellent :) Will have a think then, are the harlequin rasboras a bit big maybe? Think I prefer those to neons.

Well...plans are changing (again), been offered a nice 125ltr tank so I am going to go for this

Gives me more scope then to develop the stock and scape, wanted a 180ltr ideally but the space I use for the tank isn't really suitable for anything bigger.

Nice. You've caught the bug, my friend, there is no hope, don't try to struggle against it, just succumb to the pleasures of fishkeeping..........

*drifts off into aquatic reverie*

So, all that remains is to catch MTS. That's Multiple Tank Syndrome. Are you keeping the 70l as well?

I know the feeling with other hobbies mate ha ha Not sure re other tank, probably won't keep it but I have an old tank that I may clean up to keep as an emergency one. Now got to decide how to stock the new one! I reckon couple more cory, another CDP, shoal of maybe 8 Harlequins as I like those.
