I've just bought a 6' x 2' x 2' tank complete with 2 massive Eheim filters, lighting, heaters and cabinet/hood and am chuffed to bits.

Am not able to pick it up until next weekend but I'm really excited to put it all together.

I'm planning to use playsand for substrate, and have some Tetratec planting substrate to mix in where necessary. I already have about 7 pieces of bogwood that will go in, may get more.
I also have various plants, including amazon swords. Also some fast-growing species too.

I have a few Qs though, for those who may know:

1) Eheim Prof II 2028 and Eheim Wet/Dry 2229 - are these two externals enough for the tank?

2) Should I use 2 x 200W heaters or 2 x 200W and 1 x 300W or which combi?

3) How many bags of playsand might I need (purchasing from Argos) for the substrate - I don't want it to be thin, as my plants need planting well to re-establish.

4)What is the best layout for my stocking (found in sig), I was thinking either bogwood along back wall and round corners/sides leaving semi-circular clear area OR one end heavily planted/bogwood and other end reasonably bare, may look odd though.

5) A lot of my fish like a good water circulation and come from fast flowing rivers - should I get a powerhead or similar to get a flow in the tank?

I think that's about it - would be grateful of any help :)

Firstly congratulations on the tank.

so your tank water volume will be 698 Litres or 179.5 U.S gallons

If you go with Ehiem's figures then yes your 2 pumps are more than sufficient if you look at there technicals the Pro 2028=
  • For Tank litre/gal: 600/132
  • Pump Output: 1050 l/h
  • Filter Circulation: 750 l/h
  • Delivery Head: 2.0mWs
  • Filter Volume: 7.3 L
  • Power Consumption: 25 w
and the Wet/Dry 2229=
  • For Tank litre/gal: 600/132
  • Pump Output: 1050 l/h
  • Filter Circulation: 550 l/h
  • Delivery Head: 2.0mWs
  • Filter Volume: 7.3 L
  • Power Consumption: 25 w
makes a total of 2100 L/H pump output and 1300 L/H filter circulation I cant remember which is the important one someone else will pop by to advise you and good luck with the other questions

regards onebto

If it were me with that tank then I wouldn't plan to have it planted.

I think both you and your fish will be more than happy with lots of wood and rocks. Possibly get some large swords and larger species of anubias etc.

But alot of the fish you have in there will both uproot and destroy plants as they grow.
