I have two CF lights, 6700K and 8000K. I really don't like the color of the 6700K and thinking about changing it to 8000K to match. The 6700k has this green tint that looks really unnatural... what do you guys think?

do you have algae? if not then I wouldn't change it. If it aint broke then it dont need fixing! I'd put up with the green tint.

I have some; just bought some Otos to munch it up.

The higher energy lamps are more likely to encourage algae. Swapping the lower energy lamp for the higher, without adjusting anything else may well make your algal problem worse. My temptation would be to replace the 8000K with something lower, ~5000K or even lower.

But don't you find that a 5700K lamp detracts from the beauty of the plants and fish? I've noticed that the colors don't look as pretty in my plants and fish, and in some cases, they look wrong...

Maybe it would offend me less if the other was 6700K also, and I didn't have anything for it contrast against....

When your plants are growing well and you're experiencing little or no nuisance algae then colour temp. choice is really down to personal taste. I have tried tubes ranging from 3000K to (claimed) 18000K in my tank - all with success.

Personally I find full-spectrum daylight tubes the most appealing to the eye, I have a mix of 6500 and 7500K. The 6500K are pure white and the 7500K a little green which suits me fine as all my plants are green and the overall effect is quite stunning.

So the color tint of the bulb isn't a product of color temp? Can you explain why a 6700K bulb has a green tint, but you've had a 6500K that was pure white? I don't really understand that...

Okay, that kinda makes sense. Thanks.
