Hi everyone,, this is my first post on here so please be gentle.

My current tank (Juwel approx 65litres). Been running for about 4 years. Had at beginning black mollies, platy's (never having live bearers again! and 2 clown loach) Has developed a leak. Even touching up with slilicone sealant (on the outside) is slowly becoming useless.

I went out today to puchase another tank. And thought I would have a change and bought a 60L biorb. But after reading posts on here and reading the instructions with the BiOrb find that it's not really suitable for the clowns, due to their rummaging around the bottom.

Before I take it back, just would like to have your comments please. All I have in the tank now are 2 clown loaches and 3 tetra's (can't remember the name, black with gold stripe).
Many thanks

I wouldn't be concerned with the suitability for the BiOrb, specifically, because clown loaches grow far too big for any 60 litre tank. You should rather take them back, or get a bigger tank.

Clown loaches can grow to well over 12 inches long so a biorb is utterly unsuitable for them. They do grow slowly but even so will need a six foot tank by the end of it. You're better off taking them back and exchanging them for more tetras, as tetras need to be in groups of 8+

As stated, though they are slow growers the clowns will get big, far too big for a 65l. They are intolerant of poor water quality. A 75 gallon tank with a large footprint is the minimum I would keep them in, as a species only group.

Go with the return & tetra purchase, and consider a much larger tank for clown loachs. There are also other loachs that don't grow as large as clowns that would be suitable for a smaller tank, yoyos come to mind.

Thanks for the info everyone. I have taken the BiOrb back and purchased another rectangle tank but bigger. Can't take the clowns back I've had them for nearly 4 years.

I will when needed, and to keep them comfy, get an even bigger tank at a later stage.
Many thanks to all
