I was thinkin about setting up a 5 gallon betta tank. I want a few extras in there but it will mainly
Be for a male betta. I also want 5 or 6 neons, 3 Pygmy corys (if I can find somewhere that sells them), a breed of shrimp and either tiger or apple snail.
Does this sound ok? Any suggEstions?

I would personally change all the neons into pygmy corys, or some other species of dwarf cory.
That way it won't detract from the beauty of your fighter, not to mention the corys love large groups.

Would the corys be likely to breed? I think I would like the neons as well. What shrimp is best? I like cherry but ghost seem easier to come by?

You can't fit all that into a 5 gal, that's like cramming a person into a small cupboard. For all that, I wouldn't go for anything smaller than a 30ltr (10 gal).

I think you're workin on US gallons there cos my tank is 26 or 28 litres which is about 5 imperial gallons so must be about 8 or 9 US gallons. Does it sound ok for that?

Oh ok, my bad lol sorry.

I would rethink the tetras though, maybe betta, pygmys and a smaller shoaling fish.

Any suggestions? I've had no problems with neons and bettas before that's all?

Also what would be the best filter? Sponge or undergravel?

I'm saying a smaller shoaling type, as tetras are darty and 25-28 ltrs isn't really much space for them but that's my personal opinion.

But Neons should be ok, they stay pretty small. I wouldn't bother with ungravel, a normal sponge filter will be enough.
