55g Tank Setup Suggestions

Hey everyone,
well recently my 4 year old oscar died in my tank.
Now that I have a empty 55g tank I would like to add some fish to it. I would like to add peaceful fish, or something that i can have more than 1 fish in with. I have seen a few pictus catfish and they look awesome so i may want to add that in the tank with other fish. I would also like to add a pleco that doesn't get that big such ass a rubber nose pleco or something. What else can I add in the tank. Tiger barbs also fascinate me are those compatible with these fish? Please let me know what you think.

Some smaller loaches, a group of neon tetras, a few gouramis, and some peaceful cichlids would be good.

cool thanks for the suggestions, a few questions:
would the neon tetras be eatin by the pictus?
do pictus and barbs (tiger) match?
what are some cichlids that are peaceful?

this is what i was thinking of doing:
2 pictus catfish
1 pleco
1 upside down catfish
8 tiger barbs
and mabe something else?

or mabe:
2 pictus catfish
1 pleco
1 upside down catfish
8 angel fish
