55g PICS-Aggressive tank!

I have learned a lot from this forum and consider it my best source for information and help, however, I'm starting to think "The Friendliest Forum On The Net" may no longer apply.

Friendliest doesnt mean that we have to tollerate people with terrible fish keeping practises or praise their badly stocked tanks. Would you go onto a dog keeping forum and praise the guy who keeps 5 pitbulls in a 4 foot square cage?

It seems in a lot of cases that unless you're in the "clique" of regulars, either you're ignored or bashed.

Simply not true, the only bashing that gets done is to people who have no regard to their fishes welfare. As for ignoring posts moderators cannot be seen to have favourites so unless a thread needs a mods attention it may seem to be ignored, but trust me they are not.

this is not true the first few post were not called for he may have had no idea but the piont is there is other ways to tell him he is wrong instead of insults

this was your first post on the subject... how about instead of being sarcasticly rude tell him what you would do in his situation give him a bit of your knowlegde and help him out cause im damb sure he wont listen to those sorts of comments

He knew enough to give the topic the title of "aggressive tank" and he knows the names of his fish and is therefore quite capable of picking up a book or searching on the internet about the fish he chooses to keep. As far as im concerned he is quite aware of the sizes the fish will grow to and aggression that they will show as they get bigger but doesnt give a damn.

As for telling them of my knowledge of aggressive fish do you really think that they would listen? I would like to think that they would but unfortunately it has been proved time and time again that advise is not taken and the next time they post it is in the emergencies section asking how to save their ripped up damaged fish After a while you learn to spot the fish keepers from the fish abusers pretty quickly, and fish abusers i have no time for.

i see this in every forum i have joined, be it car ones, fish ones whatever, there are always:

ignorant posters
foolish posters
genuine beginners
wise and helpful
wise and grumpy
scared to offend

I was once both an ignorant and foolish poster, i have since bowed down to always being classed as a beginner poster, simply because it shields from attacks, and welcome advice.

Whatever you decide to be, always take comments with a pinch of sea salt, and dont start arguements, you end up having one big flaming match, people get offended, people leave and a community is left of people who who have nothing to discuss because they know it already, and those who are too scared to post ie. no community!

Dont be the piranha in a communal tank.... and on the other end dont be the small hard shelled cray who cant swim but insists nipping the others....

okay, I have been waiting to find the right words for this topic. the truth is that it was very apparent from that guys first post that the tank was not intended as a grow out tank, and that there was no way that he would be willing to either take the fish back, or house them properly. it is a rare indivdual on this forum that is willing to have a 75 gallon devoted to one single fish, which by the way both the festae female that is in his tank and the oscar are each going to need respctivly.

do I think that all of the comments were out of line no, like I said it is a rare individual that is willing to commit to large agressive cichlids, we have seen in the past the results of people improperly housing their cichlids and the results, and it seems that some people here idolize those indivuals, it sickens me to see these truely awesome fish get the living snot beat out of them and people here laughing and enjoying it.

sam I think that it is time to chill out a bit, people are more than capable to defend themselves they don't need a protector for one and 2 it is only the internet. don't go flying off the handle because someone said something that you happen to disagree with.
