Well.. I am not sure if I told you guys or not but I just got a 55 gallon and a 55 gallon stand. I decided to use sand.. so I went and got the tank today and the sand too.. the sand too hours to clean and I finally got the water clear. I will be decommissioning my 29 gallon and placing the inhabitance inside the 55 gallon. that is 5 Pepper cories, 3 BS tetras, and 3 ottos. I hope to add 12 more BST. After that maybe 4 small clown loaches and keep them for a year or two till they get too big. Maybe 15 Phantom tetras to go with the BST. Defiantly a lot more cories.

although BST are pretty common, they are really great looking fish. We have 3 of them in our 30 gallon community

is that the only filter your running? i would suggest running a 2nd HOB on the opposite end of the tank. i run a topfin 60 on one end and an AC 70 on the other end of one of my 55s, and then a fluval 305 on the 2nd 55g.

either add another filter or the smallest powerhead u can find just ot had that little bit of extra water circulation

Suggestion: I think you should take part of the intake of the HOB filter off, so it doesn't show up as much. I tried to do it with mine, but seeing as though it's a hole that isn't exactly perfect for my HOB, it didn't reach the water, but that's because of the way my filter is positioned.

I shall be adding another Aquaclear of the same size when I take the other tank down.

I want congo tetras to go with them.. but I can never find them.. but anyway.. i prefer BST even if they are common haha

Voo just go to argos and buy their play sand - its that colour exactly.

Will only set you back £2.49 for 15Kg - bargain.

Kilos? No clue.. Us americans are using pounds haha. but I jsut bought two bags.. I only needed like 1.5 bags though.. now there is a wee bit too much.

I did the switch over today did some shopping. I bought lights, a hood, some more BST, bio-spira. Only problem is it is all way over priced.. the LFS (house of tropicals) has a monopoly in this area. Good thing the parents paid for half the stuff, it is in my moms home based business area (daycare center). I’m worry about them breaking the tank but if it happens it happens, at least it was free haha! Anyway, for lighting I used the 55 watt light from me 29 and stuck it in in-between the filters in the back and bought a 110 watt to place all the way across the tank and in the front. So the middle has 3WPG and near the edges a mix of let say.. 2-2.5 WPG near the edges. but it is basically a 3WPG tank. I put the fish in and use Bio-spira when I added 2 more BST. They are all starting to darken up already. Funny story about them. One, while being chased by the net, jumped out of the 29 and landed in the adjacent 55 gallon. He was so lucky, the rest put up a good fight. The peppers came quite easily.. They are like rabbits.. Sit still for you to net them. The ottos did the same.

The sand got alittlew dirty.. anyone know how to clean it? sift it out?

just use a python or syphon tube, just keep the end about 1/2-1" away from the sand and it should suck up all the waste on top.

I managed to get some nice grain silica sand.
Most of the real white sands are CaCO3 or dolomite, MgCa(CO3)2.
Both will raise both GH and KH over time.

I got 4 mroe black skirt tetras and taa-daa! Green water!!! if you are wondering what the little stickers are.. it is in a daycare center so.. I had to make it Kid friendly.
