a PH reading would help.

and i wouldnt 'just go get a fish' i would research it for a few hours first
i know but any fish suggestions, also my local fish tank shop said they will check my fish tank water

from learning the hard way i totally agree regarding the research i bought some brackish fish that my lfs told me were freshwater and it was a disaster. now if i see a fish i like but dont know about in a lfs i dont do what i used to do ie buy it on impulse i go home and research it online 1st.

well until you get a PH you cant choose any fish, as that rock will more than likely raise the PH. and that wont give you time to do any research

yea as above ALWAYS research fish you want to buy and find out requirements e.g. min tank size, ph range, temp range and sensitivity also aggression if dealing with potentially aggressive fish i.e cichlids

does it even matter about ph level, cant believe how specific a fish tank has to be

if you cant be bothered to house a fish properly then why are you planning on keeping fish? i dont mean to be rude but it takes a lot of thought, money and research.

Not especially, but the big load of limestoney stuff tends to make the water harder and more alkaline, which most fish don't like too much.

i have looked at fish on websites, and was asking what fish would look ok in the fish tank and i would look at the fishes ph levels ect

Also, you mention you are taking the water to LFS to test. Does this mean it isnt cycled?
it is not a cycled tank but has water from a previous tank setup and also has a couple of other fish
