Ok, at Walmart, they have a 55 gallon tank for $100. it comes with light, tank and filter, filters. is it worth it?

I paid $199 Canadian for a 55G kit. Came with the tank, filter, hoods, and some food that I am still using 5 months later and water conditioner samples as well. I thought it was worth it. I want to upgrade the filter to something better in the near future.

That is an absolute bargain, even if some of the components are a bit lacking in quality. A 55 gal here in the UK would cost at least £150 (around $300 USD) as a complete kit. I'd say go for it, even if you replace the filter with a better one.

I have noticed that Wal-Marts prices on certain fish items are really good. I dont see a problem buying fish tanks, fake plants, or certain foods from Wal-Mart. Its the same stuff you would find at any pet store. Ive noticed one thing my wal-mart doesnt carry is Hilkari, so i have to pay alot for that at a pet store. I would never buy fish from there though.

I use penguin filters and wallmart has their own brand of filter cartridges that fit them perfectly for about half the price. Not to mention the cichlid food sticks which is the only thing, thats not alive, which I can get my Oscar to eat. I also buy my compact flourescents for my eclipse tank there.

They use Aqua Tech. I don't know what I'm using now, I'm too tired to go upstairs.
