I'm looking to sell or trade my 29 gallon tank setup thats currently running, and has everything needed for fish, because I would like to upgrade to a 55 gallon tank. I just had someone on craigslist offer to trade his 55 hex for my tank and setup, but wasn't sure if in general I should stick to the standard dimensions, or consider a hex. The space saving setup of a hex is very appealing, but I know from past research that a lot of fish prefer longer tanks for swimming room rather than short and tall tanks.

I'm looking to do peaceful FW tropical fish setup, so no cichlids or oddball fish. Probably along the lines of cories, tetras, hatchets, mollies, neons and other similar fish.

Thanks for your advice!

well if you have the room go long but a strait up trade from a 29 to a 55...sounds pretty good to me!

Sounds a good deal to me too . length is best but your 29g for a 55g is worth considering.

I think I'm going to hold off and go with the long, especially since I was hoping to have a small school of rainbows, and I remember them ideally needing lots of swimming space.

That and the tank looks a wee bit cheap, the guy said it looks like this:
