55 Gallon Tank!

So tomorrow I'll be receiving a 100 50 gallon fish tank with everything included. This is a huge step up from my puny little 10 gallon so I'm a bit overwhelmed haha

I'm planning on doing a fishless cycle, so I'm going to need to read-up on it.

I have NO idea what to do for the stocking, but I'm thinking something along the lines of plenty of neons, and 12 cories or something.
I also like the idea of an angel but I know neons and angels don't do well.
I don't know if the tank comes with a light, if not hopefully I can get one for cheap so I can do a planted tank.

I'm probably getting ahead of myself but MAN am I excited!

I think I'll move my cories and mollies into the 100 and turn the 10 into a betta tank.
I'm just realy exctied!

Any stocking suggestions?
I really want fish that "go".
I don't want a bunch of different fish species with only 1 or 2 of the same. Get it?

I'd rather have only 3 or 4 fish species with plenty of each. Suggestions?!

It may be to expensive and hard to do but it sounds like a nice discus tank lol and congrats

mark: Although discus's are pretty, I don't find them worth the money But to each their own!

I really like the idea of 1 angel, 12 cardinal tetras, and 12 cories.
Don't know what else I'd like to add though, or even if I could.
I've been reading Angel and Cardinal/Neon stories all day, and I'm hoping to get the angel as a baby with full grown tetras. Don't know though.

Not sure about the angel as they will get quite large in the 100G, you could easily have at least 20neons in a 100G maybe 15 cories but i dont know what else maybe a 2 large groups of tetra's?

What dimensions are your new tank mate? Do you intend to gravel it or go with sand? What sort of fish are you looking for? Peacefull Community fish? Moderate/Aggressive varieties? People will tell you what they think would look good, but to them, find something you truly like mate, and do the research to see how to make it the best set up for them

It's good your going down the few species set up as you can easily match water conditions for these. When you start to add more and more species it gets hard to cater for all there needs I reckon

if youre not planning on having real plants you could do a lot worse than stocking the tank around a severum . great fisah loads of personality and would be fine with corys . although this would make most tetras a no go .

My brother just picked up the tank the guy threw in a stand, a bubbler, substrate, a light, and plenty of other goodies!! :3

I don't know the dimensions at the moment, but by 2:00 I'll have the tank in my hands!
Definitely sand. In fact the guy gave me some to use! I'm going to have to be sure to really wash it.
I really have no idea what I want for fish other than either neons/cardinals and cories.

Markandhisfish: I actually had my heart set on it being planted! But those fish are beautiful!

Malawi MaD: Do you know if there are any smaller types of angels? I don't know how I feel about those massive angels I see sometimes.

Okay so one question, I've got 2 filteres in my 10 gallon, one is rated for up to 10, the other up to 25. Could I take the 25 out and put it in the 75 for an instant cycle? Or would it not work?

You would want another filter running also of course but I did somthing similar with my first 55 gallon. I set the 25 gallon filter I had up in it along with the new one and I never had any problems.

I assume you meant to type 100 and not 75. The answer though, is that it all depends on your stocking. If the filter has been in the tank for a while then it no doubt has beneficial bacteria, but it can only hold a certain level of bio load. If you're talking full stocking, the filter from the 10 gallon will definitely not be ready to keep up with a fully stocked bigger tank, plus it just isn't moving nearly enough water through it. Obviously you are getting a new filter for the larger tank though, so what you would want to do is run both the mature filter as well as your new filter in the new tank and fishless cycle it until it can process the appropriate amount of ammonia for your planned stocking level. I wouldn't recommend moving the fish until the new tank is fully cycled. Patience is key!

Well, in that case I'll just keep the two filters in my ten gallon.

From the pictures, everything in the tank looks dirty. How do I go about cleaning the filter, bubbler, tank etc? Just water?

Except I have NO idea how to use it and it's not put together.
The tank seems in decent shape, the light fixture is a built old, and the bubblers are dirty. No heater. But hay, you get what you pay for! (it was 20)
Can someone help me with this filter?
