Just had to share, my young pineapple lyretail swordie girl had her first batch of babies last night! I couldn't believe how many survivors I netted out this morning. She's about 6 months old and a rather dainty young lady but incredibly there are 52 fry that have now been moved to a fry tank. She gave birth in my 55 gallon tank which she shares with 6 other adult swordies and 8 corys. This is the largest single batch of babies I've ever pulled out of that tank.

Congrats Polard! That's a lot of babies for a little girl like that! :D

Do you have any pictures of the fry?

Here's a picture of 40 or so of them in their tupperware transport container. Unfortunately I had just given the adults some flake food when I spotted the first fry so as I was netting them out quite a bit of debris came with them. I always take a picture of them after I've rounded them up to make it easier to count them. Once they've been put in the 10 gallon it's hard to get photos of them.

Is there a black baby amongst them?? Is Terrell the father :hyper:

Congrats, the babies are adorable

I am waiting on my black swordtail to pop....she looks ENORMOUS though is acting like nothings going on  I am moving her on her own this afternoon, knowing me she will "go" before then -_-

There's actually 4 black ones. I was really surprised at the color split, so few blacks. Most of the batches that Terrel has fathered had at least half of the fry black. Then again, there could be more black ones back in the 55 that I missed, all they have to do is stand still and you can't find them. I'm going to do a second sweep in a little bit when I do a w/c. I'm frantically trying to get the 50 gallon tank I bought the other day set up so I can free up my two 20 gallon tanks and move some fry to them.

Dion, my black hi fin little boy is the father of this batch! I'm really looking forward to seeing what I get from him.

You have to love fry!!
Thay are simply adorable!
That is a lot of fry for a dainty little girl though. Hope she has recovered ok. Hope you are enjoying them. SO CUTE!!

Mom is doing great, she snacked on bloodworms earlier and is munching on some peas now. It's hard to imagine all those babies stuffed inside her but she came through like a little trooper.

 Congrats PB Glad to hear they are doing good and the Mommy sounds like she could be a future Doris :p I guess Arizona is soon going to overrun with little Swordies :D
