50/50 lighting

what impact does a 50/50 flourescent bulb have on an aquarium? what does having one of the lights blue do differently than having them both white? does it help the plants or something? i saw one at petsmart.com and was just wondering what difference it makes.

The blue actinic lighting is meant for reef systems. For a freshwater aquarium it doesn't do anything special, except give the tank a certain aesthetic mood that some like.

and grows some lovely varieties of algae.....

blue light is a no no for freshwater tanks. does nothing for plants whatsoever.

go for tubes 3000-7500K, not above 7500 and never actinic.
