I'm getting a nice 5 gallon tank. For now I'm going to put a pregnant platy in there. When she gives birth this will become the baby tank. Is this a good idea or not?

Well I just figured out it is a 2.5 gallon so still the question remains but.....

The fry could only be temporary housed in there for a short time but if you have a large number of fry like 20 or 30 you will have better luck in the main tank

K I'll look in to that my friend also has a nice 10 gallon but sadly he sold the filter so what type do u suggest that is cheap and efficient

Is it quiet?

I have an aqueous 20-30 whisper on my 29 gallon

Aqueon I mean I hate spelling changers

Yes. As long as it does not get stuff all over the intake, once something got stuck on the intake and it made it annoying and horrible sound, just make sure nothing gets stuck on the intake

be sure to put some panty hose or a filter sponge over the intake. Fry very easily get sucked into the filter :)

He also actually has a complete 10 gallon setup I just went to look at. :).

If you want a filter for a fry tank, get a sponge filter. They don't eat fry like most other filters and they do hold some small amounts of microscopic foods, infusoria, that benefit newborn fry.

This is a huge one that I use in a 40 gallon breeder tank but you will not want one that big. Your LFS probably carries 2 or 3 different ones for a 5 to 10 gallon tank.
