5 Foot Tank

Hello new to the forum used to keep tropicals some years back and would like to get back into it.

Im thinking of a 5 foot tank for 2 Discus and how many tetras?

I like the Cardinal Tetra the most.

So how many Tetras could i keep in a 5 foot tank along with 2 Discus?

A tank that size would be a fantastic discus tank but I woulod have about 6-8 discus as they are shoaling fish and look better that way and I would also have a good shoal of 15-20 cardinals or rummy nose which I had in my old tank andI thought it looked great

rummys look great in a settled tank in a shoal better than the shoal of cardinals I also had in my opinion

I have both Cardinals and Rummynose. I have kept glowlights and lampeyes too, all are attractive fish, but the lampeyes are quite delicate....

Lets assume it will hold 400 litres (rio 400 dimentions, with 5ft length), so thats 88 gallons. One gallon equates to arround one inch of fish. Subtract 48 inches for the 6 discus, and you have 40 inches remaining to play with. That is 40-50 tetras.

Yep that would be a cool setup, i have 25 cardinals and 5 rummy nose in my setup but think the more cardinals you get the better they look, specially when they shoal and rummy noses are good because they help alert you to any problems with water as they lose their colour quickly if all is not right

I have 5 discus and a shoal of 8 rummy nose tetras. I think they are cracking fish - bit daft but cracking!! Its your tank though so its up to you.
