My blue acaras keep spawning and have been unsuccessful the past 3 batches due to
ive tried spawning them in the spare tank (50L) they refuse to spawn there because its too small for them (i think)
ive had them spawn in the main tank but i cant put all my other fish (that eat the babies) into the small tank (that's just mean)

so does anyone know if I moved both the parents and the eggs into the small tank after spawning would they still care for the eggs? or would they eat them?

what are your opinions/ideas?

my other option is to just wash the eggs down the sink

Let the fish do their thing! survival of the fittest is what I say. What are you going to do with 30-100 Acaras anyways ? I say let the fish raise the fry in the big tank if some die that's life. Make sure to put some plants that will give the fry a place to hide like java moss That stuff was great for my mollies when they bred.

Good luck.

well its a 0% survival rate, it takes about 2 days for >100 fry to become 10. and i would be fine with that if the parents didn't get so aggressive towards the other fish during this time, thats my main concern.

Your best bet, would be to divide the tank they are currently in, with a tank divider, that way nobody suffers by being confined, the parents will be less stressed and more likely to care for the fry better. Wouldnt move the parents/fry at any time, the slightest interference and they will eat the eggs/fry.

Either that, or get a larger tank, just for the pair, 40g minimum.

rams and angels. i'm gonna try siphoning them into the spare tank after they are free swimming

Yeah the fry would be tasty snakes for the angels. Good idea about siphoning them. That should work good luck.

same thing happens with my kribs . they spawned 5 or 6 times each time all fry gets eaten they seem to have given up now as they havent spawned for a month or so .

well now thats a bit sad, what temperatures will encourage cichlids to spawn? do they have breeding seasons?
