I want some bottom feeders for this tank and maybe somethig to eat Snails. I thought maybe some Panda cory's

The tank will mainly be used as a breeding tank for Swordtails. there will be 4 (1 Male/3 femals) in there at any one time. but i want some perminant residents aswell who will keep it running and help clean up. Andy ideas??

For eating algea a group of japonica shrimp or otocinclus would be good, both are superb algea eaters and stay small. In a 40l tank i would recommend 5-8 shrimp or 3 or 4 ottos to go with your swordtails. The only foreseeable problem would be that swordtails eventually grow quite large and may attack the shrimp.
