40 gal Species tank

Hey guys,

Could you recommend any species of rift lake african Cichlid I could keep in a 40 gal species tank? I was thinking of aulonocaras but from what i've read, only the males develope colour. Would an all male display tank work? Or would there be too much aggression?

I've seen all male display tanks work for Aulonocara, but the downfall is the less dominent members won't show their color very well. Male aulonocara are solitary fish in the wild, so this setup would mainly be used for a tank that simply looks pretty.

You can make a species tank out of any rift lake fish, so your choices are quite open. While many species tanks are not as varied in color as a mixed show tank is, they can be very rewarding in their own way.
