Hi friends,
• I am very strongly contemplating the idea of keeping just female Bettas in my 10 or 15 gallon tank (whichever I finally buy). Being a beginner, is it advisable to do so?
• How many can be kept in 10 / 15 gallons with lots of plants?
• In a 10 or 15 gallons tank, would one need oxygen or filtration pump?
• How often would the water need to be changed?
• Is there any article on how to go about getting 4 females to stay together (as getting 4 living together females from the pet shop seem difficult). I might need to buy them from different shops.
• Any important issues on keeping 4 or more females together.
• I hope they would do well with just eating pellets?
THANKS.

in a ten gallon tank you could keep up to six female bettas, but you would want no fewer than four because otherwise there may be too much aggression.

They won't need an air pump because bettas have a labyrinth organ which allows them to breath atmospheric air. However a filter might be a good idea because that size tank you are going to want to allow cycle. otherwise you would be doing 100% water changes weekly :X filtered and cycled, that size tank would want 25% removed (plus gravel vac and rinsing the filter in tank water) once a week.

To keep them together peacefully make sure there are plenty of plants and caves so that they can get away from one another if it's necessary. females are more subdued than males, usually, but they are going to have a hierarchy and there will most likely be some scuffles for the first few days.

They will be okay eating pellets, but bettas are predatory fish so there will be no way for you to get around feeding them food that did not cause an animal to die at some point (i know this was a concern of yours earlier). They also will do well on frozen and/or live foods like bloodworms, glassworms, daphnia, and other insects/invertebrates, but it isn't advisable to feed freezedried foods because they can cause constipation and do not have much nutrition. Pellets far and away are the cheapest and easiest, but these, too, can cause constipation. An occasional feeding of boiled, de-skinned pea will help keep them regular ;)

other than that, just make sure you have a heater as they are tropical fish :good:

1. Agression can be a problem with females, I would suggest only a male or female first but if you feel your up with it, sure. But I would keep in mind having a few extra 1 gallon tanks.
2. If they are spawn siblings, more, but random females six is a good number.
3. I dunno. :p
4. Uh, 25 percent monthly? Not sure.
5. I don't know. But remember - introduce them ALL AT THE SAME TIME!
6. Intruduce all at the same time. =3
7. They really do like food like fozen/freeze dried bloodworms but it won't hurt them to have pellets.

EDIT: Dang.

Thanks starrynightxxi and K. J. for very kindly posting your replies. Thanks & Bye
