Fish Fanatic
I recently found 1 of my female Bettas dead had the bottom of my tank with what looked like 2 slits/cuts near her gills then about a week and half back I found my male floating on his side and looked as if he'd started rotting away with his stomach cut and his eyes clouded over and around the same time 1 of my older females had just completely disappeared then today I checked the tank again and found another 1 of my female Bettas floating with half of the body rotted away. I've never had many casualties with Bettas in the past and only around 2/3 with other fish in the past year besides 1 tetra I found dead and floating and 1 African Dwarf Frogs that had climbed out of the water onto some java moss and looked swollen or as if it had choked so it seems quite strange how there's been a spate of deaths recently. I've tested the water and the ammonia is 0-0.1ppm, nitrite 0ppm and nitrate 5-10ppm. I've also been adding Seachem paraguard on occasion but this doesn't seem to have solved the problem. Really don't know what to do or what's causing the deaths all of a sudden in such a short space of time. Might also be worth mentioning that I'd had the Bettas in the tank for a good few months now so I seriously doubt fighting has caused any of the deaths.
