I'm definitely not a newbie at aquariums, but I just upgraded to a FREE setup from my girlfriends dad. Its a 36 gallon bow front, and hes giving me with it a HOT Magnum filter that says "For aquariums up to 55 gallons". Is this too strong for my tank? Its quiet as hell, but seems the current still is a little strong. I used to successfully run a 12 gallon Marineland Eclipse tank...which didnt have any kind of real flow current at all, but worked great. Some insight please since I just transferred over fish and need to know if I need to buy a new filter system tomorrow, or if this is fine...and help or suggestions please!

Hi there usually over filtering a tank is never a bad thing what fish are in there? Some fish love a big current but others hate it. If you plant around the front of it or place some decor like wood or stone in its path to break up the flow. Or if there is a spray bar attachment use that.

In the process of adding fish, but I have directed the flow at the side of the tank, which slows it alot once it comes out to the front...so, I guess I answered my own question by trial and error..thanks for replying though!
