350 Gallon Aquarium

fair enough, i wouldn't put mine in with oscar!

Still looks great bullrock. :good: When did you get rid of the pacu? If I remember correctly.... you did have a pacu in there right? Anyways, still looks man!

I found out that pacus don't do well by themselves first hand. It never really got used to the openness of the tank and constantly swam around nervously. It contracted some sort of disease that fortunately did not spread to the other fish and I had to put it down.

opaline gourami i reckon..... dinner??

It's a three spot gourami (blue). It is the first fish I ever bought. It is two years old now and has always been ignored by the oscar and only rarely gets attention from the convicts. Even when it is unwelcomed by the other fish, they just swim slowly toward it and it gets the idea and removes itself from the situation. I really believe that space is a big factor as to the aggression levels of fish.

Looks like some sort of gourami on the other side of the tank..

any plans on other fish? I remember a topic from long ago with pics, but wasn't sure if you made up your mind or not.

The only new fish since the topic from months ago are a jack dempsey and a green terror. But, when the green terror arrived, it had many torn fins and I have it in a different aquarium hoping it will heal.

I decided that I really liked the idea of giving the fish as much space as possible and therefore understocked the tank. I didn't want to see tons of fish with nowhere to go. If the pacu had felt more secure and thrived, the tank would not have been all that understocked since it would have gotten huge. But, since it has been gone, I've had no desire to replace it with another huge fish like a pacu.

now that is a fish tank :hyper:
i love the way it is so understocked very nice mate and thx for the pics :good:
less is definately more

No problem...thanks for the kind words. I would like to see your 280g when you get it going.

Thats certainly a light stock....

I so wish i could have one that size!

fair enough :good:
have you got any plans for any new fish?

Not really...once the green terror (who's healing in another tank from ripped fins) has healed and is full size, and once the dempsey, six convicts, oscar, and common pleco are full sized, then I'm not so sure the tank will be all that understocked. It may be just right for my tastes. I like knowing the fish have soom room to maneuver.

Can I see some pics of your JD? I love them as seen how I reply on almost an JD post

It would be cool to see your rescued GT too. He was prob in a tank that was completly overstocked at the lfs wasn't he? I wish that lfs could have more space for their fish so they wouldn't get beat-up like that

O and sorry to hear about your Pacu. Wouldn't think that such a big fish would get so freaked out by the big space. Sorry to hear it didnt work out for him, but when everyone else gets full grown it will be an awesome tank

Very nice tank and very big. Were did you put it and if its not in the basement what kind of extra support did you add. :good:

fair enough, yeah i reckon space is a big factor with agression, cram your fish in and they've no where to run to so your gonna have more problems.

glad it works out for you and your gourami....... still not gonna try it with mine though! ;)

I had a nine foot wall in my living room that was perfect for the tank. I did not need to reinforce the floor since my home is built on a concrete slab.

I'll get some pics of the dempsey and the terror for you soon. I ordered the terror and an electric jack dempsey from aquascapeonline.com and they totally messed the order up. The dempsey was supposed to be about 2.5 to 3" and was only 1" (it never ate and died) and the terror arrived with all of its fins ripped to pieces. Some have said how Pedro at aquascapeonline.com is very good, but in my experience he was lousy. When asked to refund my money, he replied that the next time I ordered from him he would make it up to me. But, I will never order from him again. My local fish stores are lousy, too. They do not have good selections and their fish are not all that healthy. I wish I had enough experience and business sense to open my own fish store. I could make tons since the competition is so weak.
