I'm not really new to the hobby but it's been a while since I have had Community fish. when I was younger I used to own Tetra and a bunch of mollies. Now I have 5 bettas (don't worry, I have them in seperate tanks)

anyways, I just bought a 35gal aquarium in hope of starting a community tank, the only problem is that I don't know what types of fish are compatible with each other. the types I am more intrested in are

Tetra
Mollies
Platys
Red Tail Sharks
Black Moors(love these)
Oranda Red Caps

I'm still looking for more types of fish to choose from so if anybody has some suggestions, can tell me what one are the most compatible with each other, and how many of each type I could fit in my 35 gal and the other fish they could go with that would be great.

Okay, well.. i'm kinda new to the hobby, but i know a lot about compatible fish types.. or non-compatible types.. hopefully i can help.. ^_^;

Tetra- need to be in a large group, at least 6, in order not to fin nip. they WILL fin nip slower moving fish.

Mollies- anything bigger than them is okay, i think. because mine chases anything thats near her size or smaller. but that could be just her... >_>

Platys- about the same size as mollies, so they're probably okay

Red Tail Sharks- semi-aggressive, probably not the best choice for mollies and platies, plus they get HUGE.

Black Moors(love these)- cold water fish that should be kept with other goldfish because of the drastic temperature difference, or golden dojo loaches, but you can really only have 1 goldfish per 30 gallon, and that's with near daily water changes.. so you'd need a bigger tank for more goldfish in general.

Oranda Red Caps- see above

well.. what i have in my 10 gallon right now are:

My main molly, sushi, and her 6 fry
1 blue dwarf gourami (he's bigger than sushi, so she leaves him alone)
3 otos. they're bottom feeders who are kinda hard to keep healthy, but they're fun to watch at night.

so i'd go for some gourami. they're colorful and have definite personality. :)

i hope i help you out some!

Thanks, that helped alot. thing is I really want a black moor is there anything I could put with them? My local pet store has a miniature variaty (not really, they are just ones they are just the smallest of all the moors they get) and they are only about 1.5 - 2.5 inches so I was hoping I could go for one of them with some other fishies just don't know what type. if things don't work out I have an ungle that has HUGE community thanks that he has been raising for around 20 years and he would probably be willing to take the moor.

I'm also intrested in Guppies.

Black moors are goldfish. They can be kept with other fancy goldfish if you have enough room. The recommendation is 20 to 30 gallons for the first goldfish and 10 to 20 gallons for each additional one. This is based on the fact that a typical goldfish will grow to well over a foot long. Even an oranda or a moor can get quite large so they present a large biological load on a tank. Compatible fish would include many of the other cold water or cool water fish. That would include white clouds and even some of the more peaceful goodeids.
