Well.... Timone (juvie blood parrot) is just getting harrassed way too much by the oscar still. My gf wont let me get rid of Timone (I don't blame her), so I went on Craigslist and picked up what I thought was a 40 gallon tank for him today. When I got it home and measured it, it was only 30 gallons......

So this will be the BP's new home. What sort of stocking can I put in with this guy? Since the Oscar is alone in the 75g at this point, i'd like to make this tank a little bit more active (more smaller fish).

I was thinking a couple angels and maybe a couple gouramis?
Are there any other cichlids that would get along ok with a mild tempered BP in a tank this size? I'm not sure if Rams or Keyholes would work with a BP or not.

Appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Thats really to small for him, but its better than being in a tank with a Oscar. I would suggest not having anything else in there, except maybe , well honestly i dont know. A fish that is too big for the tank, i can really suggest putting anything else in there.

Kind of my thoughts.... Thats not really the answer I was hoping for.

He is a little guy right now and a larger tank is not out of the question later on.

Sorry, i just wanted to let you know that there isnt many options. It is just, he will be very agressive. He probably didnt seem like it in the big tank, but my small blood parrot always fought with my angel ( this a 30g tnak, i rehomed the parrot)>

really? i've heard that BP's are pretty docile compared to other cichlids. that is news to me. I suppose it just depends on the fish though.

I appreciate the input. I wasn't very excited to find out that the tank was 30 gallons.... wasn't expecting a whole lot of options . Picked up the filter, heater, tank, and stand for $100 tho. :good: can't get much better than that.

You got a good deal! I bought a new 30g for 50 dollars one time. It was like 50 percent off though! Then i bought like 20 pounds of gravel for 10 dollars. The store was closing! Great deals for me, but i miss them. I cant wait for them to re-open. Well, all the aprrots i've seen have been agressive. My parrot was quite the devil. I bought him at about a inch for 5 dollars, and he grew into a 4 inch monster in about 2 months. He turned from shy and docile to big and mean.

Actually they tend to be the exact opposite. If the parrot was more the size of the oscar it would probably be him being the aggressor. A 30 gal is a bit tight but should do a lone BP for a while. I dont think angels or gouramis would work but maybe some dither type fish and/or a bottom feeder such as a armoured catfish.

Angels and gouramis aren't working so hot. We'll see... but i'm sure they will not be permanent tank mates when i upgrade.... or at this rate even temporary tank mates.

The chasing has subsided a bit, but I'll probably move the parrot into a 55 gallon with some SD's and maybe a severum. Then the angels and gouramis can have a peaceful tank that is heavily planted.

thx for the help. i'm finding that my sources saying that BP's are docile is entirely inaccurate.
