hi - ive just got a 30 ltr tank and i want your views of what i can stock it with.

Thanks

adam

that's pretty small, around 8 us gallons.

aim for around 8" of fish... no one fish should be bigger than 3"

other than that it really depends what your after. you could do a community of v small fish, or have a single specimin or pair of fish, there's even some teeny tiny oddballs you could have

what small fish do you recomend?

microrasboras, endlers, pygmy cories are the three that spring to mind immediately.

there are others but the problem is a lot of small species like tetra's are really active so need more swimming room than your tank can give them.

do you think i caould make it into a marine tank if i just put coral in it? --no fish--

what extra will i need 2 buy?

not to be short with you but not really.

with marine tanks bigger is really better, they are very delicate systems and the balance has to be just right, the smaller the tank the less forgiving it is of mistakes. It would take a very experienced reef keeper to make an 8G marine tank work well. Sorry but marine nano tanks are not for beginners at all.

If your interested in marines though there's a lot of really good pinned topics in the saltwater forum so go down there and have a read through. Then I'd recommend looking at at least a 40g tank to start with, budget's gonna need to be at least £6/700 to do it properly.

Just what I was going to suggest!

Have a read through the pinned topics in the nano section.

You'll need a power head, heater, refractometer, lighting, liverock and ideally a HOB / external canister filter.

Would look great as an invert only tank.
