My friend found a 30 gallon tank in her basement (well it could be 29 gallon but yeah) She reeeely wants to put fish in it. Because I just set up my 40 gallon she thinks I know exactly what I'm doing - especially when I explained to her what cycling was and how she had to do that before she got fish if she wanted them to be really happy.

So it's a 3' x 1' tank, a bit taller than it is wide. Basically the 29 gallon Topfin starter kit. It has a hood and a filter - though she's getting a new filter. Tomorrow we're setting it up and I'll be giving her media and helping her start a fishless cycle.

She wants to know what would be best in this tank.

I'm a live bearer person myself so I naturally suggested mollies, platy's and guppies. She's kept guppies before and really liked them so they are on her list.
She wants to know what other types of fish would do well in her new tank along with guppies. She's had an angle fish before as well and wants to get another. I've never had one and don't know how that would work out - other than it will eat any of her guppy fry, I assume.
So any suggestions for a newb and her newb friend with ambitions? :p

For her I'm thinking small colourful schooling fish, and/or any bottom feeders that would do well in this size of tank - if there are any. Any suggestions would be apreciated :good:

I think your suggestion sounds great :)

The tank is not big enough or tall enough for an Angel fish, so they're out straight away i'm affraid. How about a shoal of 10-12 Glowlight Tetra's, a group of 6 Sterbai Cory's and some Pitbull Plecs? 3 or 4 should work well. If not Pitbull Plecs then some Apple Snails will contrast well with the other fish especially if you chose a dark substrate.
