What's goin everyone? This weekend I picked up a 30 gallon glass aquarium to hold my first fish. Now, after some research, I've decided a betta sorority would be pretty sweet. So yesterday I went to Petsmart to get some supplies (water conditioner, nets...) and saw they were having a clearance on some fish decorations. Needless to say, I jumped on that. When picking what I wanted, I put providing a lot of hiding places on top and looks second. So do you guys think this set up will keep my girls happy when they need to be alone? Some taller silk plants will be added in the back with some smaller ones up front.

Edit: Also keep in mind this is just a mockup. The final will be more solidly placed.

IMHO, i think it would be fine.. lots of people keep bettas(females) together successfully...

minor question... Do you plan on taking those tags off the decor?  now i'm embarrassed.. HAHA

Yea, I'm taking the tags off. I ended up buying like $80 worth of decorations. Then I went through several different mockups to see what I liked. I'll return the unused stuff tomorrow or so.

I dont see anything wrong with the setup of that tank. I really like it except the coloured gravel. But if you only have female bettas it would be ok. Maybe changing to realistic colour gravel the females colour may come out more. My 2 cents

Yay for betta sororities!!!!! I love mine and I'm sure you'll love yours. They have so much personality and add a lot of color. You're providing them lots of cover and I think they'll love you for it.

In a tank that size, feel free to get more females. I have 7 in a 15 gallon and they do beautifully. :good:

That's good thinking. I'll look into that. Thanks

Thanks. How many females do you think I could resonably keep in there? Also, what am I looking at for maintenance with 6-8 bettas and a filter?

On another note, I finally found the correct ammonia for the fishless water cycle and I'll start that tonight.

you could do about 10-12 easily, but i wouldn't go much over that. keep in mind theres always those one or two that are just too darn nice that you just gotta have so try to leave a little space to work with. as for maintenance with a good filter a weekly water change should be enough.

On anything filtered and above 10 gallons, I do 50% weekly water changes.
Thanks.

Update: Went to a petsmart lastnight and got some plants but then forgot to get a test kit. :( I'm gonna go get one tonight. Also, the fish and tanks at this petsmart seemed to be of lower quality than the fish at the petsmart nearest me. Guess I know where I'm going to get my fish.
