Just performed a water change and saw something tiny wriggling around. On closer inspection it certainly has the form of a fish!

Poor little mite doesn't stand a chance in with all his/her cannabalistic elders though

As I have only just begun in this hobby, I dont really want to start splashing out on a bredding/fry holding tank just yet. If I was to buy a bredding mat for the main tank, would that give the fry a fighting chance as somewhere to hide? I guess it would be pretty impossible to keep them fed though? Just a thought......

what fish is the fry? there is only one?
the best way, but maybe sometimes very stressful for the fish is to buy a breeding net.
I like to have lots of floating plants, this gives the fry somewhere to hide, but allows some to get eaten. Unless you wants lots of fry and later adult fish. and fry are very smart, most will survive without you ever actually feeding them, i just feed my fish like normal and my fry eat leftovers that i cant spot.

Zebra Danio. Only spotted one. The 11 ZB appear to have been 'courting' almost every morning since about day 4 of being introduced to the tank. My tank is a bit sparse, only a couple of fake plants and a java fern in there, so no real hiding places.

I dont want a breeding net as I dont want to 'push' them to breed at present, just looking for options to give the fry a chance if they do hatch.

what other fish are in the tank? I find danios to be ok with fry (fair play my fry have all been livebearer) so i think you'll be alright the fish may make it to maturity, just feed as normal (but crush the last flake into tiny tiny pieces for the fry to have a go at)

Just zebra danios at present. They have loved brine shrimp so I doubt the little guy that I saw (1-2mm) stands a chance.

Buy a floating breeding trap like the one I have linked you to below.

That means I have to place bredding pairs in there though, right? Zebra danios are supposed to stay in pairs for life, bu they move so fast I have no idea what pairs are in my tank! -_-

float a marge tub in your tank and put the fry in there with a bit of plant to hide in or something and an airstone if you can feed it crushed flake and then dapnnia or whatever it can fit in its mouth as it grows
good luck scot :)

I thought the same thing when my very pregnant platy spawned one day unexpectedly while I was at work. All seemed to be lost, but then one day I noticed a flicker of red at the back next to a piece of gravel. Far smaller than the gravel at the time.

I have no idea, to this day, how it made it, but in a 25gal tank with a dwarf and a large opaline gourami, two mollies, a swordtail, and a RTBS, it made it to adulthood with no separation, no segragation, just pure and absolute luck and determination.

If that one made it, so can yours :)
