In our tank: 5 male guppies, 4 zebra danios, 1 neon tetra (gonna get more soon as more stock come in), 1 plec, 1 siamese algae eater, 1 three spot gourami.
everyones been gettin on fine but we wanted to add some more fish, so went to lfs today & got 2 female bettas (siamese fighters) & 2 blue rams - i thought i'd got a male & female but really not sure now...

1st. if the rams are both male is this ok or will it be a problem? if so whats the solution if i cant get a hold of a female?

2nd. our 3 spot gourami has been a tame fish gettin on fine with everyone, soon as we put the rams in there he seem to liven up feelin them all over, rams started to dart off as he kept feelin them & then he just flipped & started chasing both the rams around. this went on for 20 minutes chasing both of them & they were gettin very stressed. so we've taken the gourami out for now but its completely temporary accommodation so need a solution asap. some sites state that keepin gouramis in groups will stop them harrassin other fish (incl. rams) other sites state these fish simply do not mix. anyone out there that can clear this up? again if keepin in groups will help can it be just 2 gouramis? and do they HAVE to be opposite sex??

Thanks in advance :)

Three-spot/blues/opalines are big tough mean fish and you can now see that.. as yours just didn't have any proper competition (from his point of view) until now. (not laughing at your situation of course) You'd probably be best off re-homing the gourami if possible but to answer your question, I believe its one male, 2 females, a grouping of 3 like that that is generally considered a way to possibly calm the male down some, although one of the main problems with gouramis is that they are one of the few species that actually have inidividual personalities to an extent and so there's definately a bit of unpredictability to them (same as bettas.)

You're aware that GBRs are very sensitive to water conditions? They will need very frequent water changes and low nitrate I believe.. I'd definately research them some.

i also have 2 german blue rams. i would say that they are great except with any gourami as im noticing. no matter what type of gourami i have the 2 species dont get along. i would just get rid of the gourami.
