For the first, what water conditioner do you use? I've been using API Tap Water Conditioner, but I want to know if API Stress Coat or Seachem Prime is considered better... or possibly a different brand that I don't know about.

As for the the sand... I had started out with gravel, but replaced it with sand once I learned that corys don't do well with gravel. I recently read somewhere that there needs to be something to burrow into the sand to prevent some sort of gas buildup... does anyone know anything about this?

Fully cycled 10g tank with 1 male guppy, 2 male endlers, 1 corydoras, and 1 African dwarf frog (per lfs recommendation)... suggestions for filling out the numbers?

Thanks for all the help! I really appreciate it!

dechlorinator, the majority use prime it lasts longer as you only use a tiny amount in comparison to others on the market,

you dont necesarily need something to stir the sand as you can do this yourself with a finger or plastic chopstick, however malaysian trumpet snails will do this for you and you hardly see them in daylight hours as they live in the sand,

corys prefer to have company,

as for water i get the huge bottle containers and let it stand for 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate and the chlorine conditioner.. Neutral Regulator from Seachem that's what i use.. doesn't keep pH at 7.0 but at 7.4 lol

i have all the cories in gravel and they do just great. as gas build up never heard of it...

when adding fish i go by the size of when they are an adult and say one inch takes up one gallon.. but then again it all depends on how much maintenance you want to do on the tank..

i never had any luck with the African dwarf frog.. lol mine always died, so i stay away from them. but good job if you had yours for a very long time xD tell me your secrets!!!

I have heard that about corys, what would be the minimum appropriate number?

About the snails... how do I keep from ending up with too many? Can I only have 1?

Currently, I only have a few fake plants, and a small shelter decoration. Ultimately, I'd like to move on to real plants, but I probably won't be able to for a few months. Will a snail be ok with that?

I use API tap water conditioner. It is fine if your water company uses chlorine. It's very concentrated so you don't use much. But if your water company uses chloramine, you might be better changing to a dechlorinator that detoxifies the ammonia half of the chloramine molecule.

The general rule for corys is minimum of 6 but all the same kind. Which type do you have? Bronze and Albino will shoal together as they're actually the same type.
I don't think the trumpet snails eat plants so they should be ok. They don't need a pair to reproduce, they do it alone. I had a couple but I don't see them often. Apparently they reproduce really quickly but you can just take them out if you have too many after a while.
The sand is fine, I just sift through mine with water changes to stir up some bubbles and +1 on the Seachem Prime. It's more expensive but you'll have it for ages.
Hth.

were does everyone get there seachem prime from?

in the uk you cant get it online so easily now, your lfs should have it

Thanks whats the rough price so i know im not getting my pants down by lfs

You can get Seachem Prime on Amazon.com.

I have a Julii cory. He's really my favorite, I love watching him snuffle around looking for food. But I need to have some colorful fish for the kids :) . If I bring the cory number to 6, I would be fully, or overstocked?

How fast does 1 snail reproduce by itself?

Depending on the snail, it may reproduce monstrously, or not at all. Certain pond snails, apple snails, etc, can store sperm, so they'll lay fertile eggs even by itself, and reproduce very quickly. Most snails require at least 2 to breed.

We were talking specifically about trumpet snails. I understand that they can reproduce by themselves, but I want to know how fast... also, by any chance, will the fish and frog eat the baby snails? I just don't want to end up with a ton of them, lol. Especially since I don't have anyone to give the excess to :/
