Well I doubt this question is going to get a yes :/ but I was wondering if I can fit 3-4 fry in a 3gallon? I know that I'll have to move them once there fully grown but just wanted to know if its alright to have 4 fry in a 3gallon tank for about a 1 month or until they grow to be 1 inch?

-Arrowhead. :D

I'm sure if you can keep it heated, it could actually work as a fry tank.
You'd have to move then around the 1/2 - 1 inch stage though...

Oh Yeah... I forgot about the heater part. Then a trip to wal-mart is in order. :shifty: ... Thanks for the help.

Are you going to filter it? Otherwise you'll need to do very frequent water changes.

It could work...but as said already, you will definitely need to move them before they get very big.

I put my fry in a filtered one gallon betta type aquarium until theyre about 1/2" long (as long as I don't have more than 10 or so) and have never had problems so I'd say a three gallon is even better B)

 How do you heat a 1gallon? I wanna buy a 7.5watt heater from Wal-Mart...Is that enough?

why would you need a heater? if you keep your house above 74F you wont need one. This coupled with the fact that the aquarium is so small that leaving the little hood light on all day actually adds a few degrees should totally remove any need for a heater. but yea, if you keep your house outside of a healthy temperature range or near a window, you either want to keep the lid light on ( if you got a 1 gal with a lid) for get a tank big enough for a heater.

Another reason for a heater is just to keep it so the temperare doesn't fluctuate much. When you turn the light out for the night, you lose the heat from that. It also tends to be colder at night. So the temperature will fluctuate in there, and for fry it is best to keep it as stress free as possible. I'd definitely get a tank that can handle a heater. I've had Bettas in 3 gallons, with no heaters, just the light, and a warm house...and let me tell you, in the morning, that water was pretty darn cold.

And before you bring on all the arguements that the temperature fluctuates in the wild...yes it does, but the fish you buy are not wild caught fish, and they are not used to it. Just figured I'd nip that in the bud. :p

temperature fluctuates in the wild! haha just kidding. yea i know that can play a factor, so I generally the temp in the house acceptable and havent ever had any problem with it. Good points though for all who have a tank that will support a heater
