I had 3 fish die on me during the night,i know i have a little bit of white spot in the tank,at first i just thought it was the male swordtail, then noticed a guppy lying on the bottom of the tank,so when i lifted out a plant to get at it there was another guppy dead in the plant,so i have treated them for white spot third day of treatment and also increased the temp in the tank...when i looked at the 3 dead fish it looked as if they had no white spot on them,if so what would of caused them all to die?

Oh dear, that's not a nice thing to happen.

While white spot can kill if left untreated it doesn't sound like it here...

We'd need a bit more info about what's going on inside your tank to help you. All the usual info about parameters, temp, tank size and stocking levels, you know the drill.

A couple of things I'd say about some white spot treatments is that they have a tendancy to starve the water of oxygen and they can quickly lose their efficacy if you don't take out the carbon part of your filter (if you have any).

Let us know a bit more, though, please!

The parasite can also settle in the fish's gills, making it look like the fish was uninfected.
How far did you increase the temperature in your tank and over what period of time?

Hmmmm i never took out the carbon filter, never knew that ya had to

Parameters are
PH 7.6
HR 7.4
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0

Temp 26
juwel lido 200 liters
fishies,silver dollar,bala,albino shark,guppy,sword female,2 platys,cory,pictus,gourami,kissing fish

increased the temp over 48 hours from 26-30

Did you also increase oxygenation of your tank's water? You can do that by lowering the water level if you have a waterfall-type filter, the bigger splash puts more oxygen in the water, or by adding an airstone. Warmer water holds less oxygen and could suffocate your fish. Cories and gourami are fine since they can also breathe surface air.
Do you see any of the other fish maybe hanging out near the surface, having increased gill movement, gasping?

Having 0 Nitrate is also quite suspicious, is your tank cycled? Are you using a liquid test kit or test strips?

Am using an API masters testing kit, have a large airstone ball and the fiter is breaking the water vastly,no there is no other fish gasping for air etc, tank is cycled,my mate who owns an aquatic shop also tested my water and he said that its better than the water in his tanks.i have a rio 240 to set up,but with all these fish dyeing i might not need to set it up as there be nothing to put in it :(

Yeah the nil nitrate is a bit odd...

Oxygenation is a must, get as much surface movement as you can manage.

The bala shark isn't exactly ideal in your tank, have you noticed it getting boisterous and/or agitated at all?

You must be doing a lot of water changes then to get such low nitrate that your tests don't pick up any. Just to make sure you might want to check if the test kit is not past the expiry date, and are you shaking those bottles until your hand is about to fall off? I am using the Nutrafin test kit so I can never remember which one it is in the API kit that needs to be shaken to near death.

Still, that hardly is the cause for the death in your 3 guppies, if in fact there are no toxins (Ammonia, Nitrite, very high levels of Nitrate) in your tank.

How about the pH? I know you wrote it sits at 7.6 in your tank, is that the same level as it is coming from the tap? Large water changes where the pH is very different from the tap can give fish a pH shock. (Just trying to come up with other possibilities, but it still could have been the ich that may have settled in your fish's gills)

Yeah it is the same as at the tap,i would only do water changes when it would be necessary, and i always give the bottles a good shake and even a bang on a table etc

The 0 Nitrate isn't right, it should be around 20. Many pet shops tell you the tank is cycled and ready for fish, but all they want is your money.

How often do you do water changes? Once a week (recommended)? And how much each time? Do you have a lot of plants in your tank?

Fish produce ammonia, which eventually gets converted into Nitrate by the filter's beneficial bacteria (in a cycled filter). The only way to remove these Nitrate is by doing water changes or by adding live plants to your tank. If you have very little bioload (that depends on the size of your tank in combination of what kind of fish and how many you have) and a heavily planted tank, with a good maintenance regime then you might end up with very little Nitrate in your tank.

Have you double checked if you've used the correct dosage in ich treatment? It is also a possibility that your guppies were from poor stock and weren't able to withstand the heat and chemical treatment. :(

How did you cycle the tank? Have you read THIS? How long was the carbon in the tank before you added the medication? I wonder if it took out the meds and so they havn't had a chance to work yet.

Of course we want to make sure your fish get through the treatment first but I do think you should know your tank is not suitable longterm for the silver dollars, bala sharks, pictus, and kissing gourami so I would re-home these when everything is better.

Which medication are you using? Do you have any pictures of the fishies?

I have another tank just need to get it all set up,and also the missus said the living room needs all decorated before i can put the bigger tank in  lol i might reach her the  scrapper and wallpaper when we get in from work :D coz it would be to much of a hassle to drain it and move it etc

You are losing an awful lot of fish in this tank; something's not right....

How did you cycle the tank?

What filtration are you using and how do you maintain it?

Are you doing the tests yourself, or is your friend doing them for you?

Have the fish that you're losing been in there from the beginning, or are they later additions?

What's the level of nitrate in your tap water?

yeah i been doing the water checks, and also getting my mate to do them as well, ive spoke to other guys who have tanks and they said they never cycled there tanks etc and have never had as many fish die like what i have, guppys and swordtail have been in front the start, will check the nitrate in the tap water and let ya know the reading etc
