I have been trying to find 2x 48 led moon lights for my aquarium for what seems like an eternity . I had some previously on a juwel 180 which i upgraded from 2x24 leds because they were far to dim. But I can't find any that are plug and play (do not need asembly) I can find the components but do not have the equipment, the knowledge, or qualification, or confidence to connect the components together. This is what it should look like...

But as you can see there is only one 48 strip and I need two. So my question is what good tried and tested alternatives are out there. Bear in mind that when the 2x48 plug and play was on ebay it was no more than £15 so I'd rather not to spend a small fortune for the same result.

On another note, I found that previously with leds in my light cycle Moon 1:30-3:00 - T5s 3:00-11:00 - Moon 11:00-12:30 With this set up/cycle I had a much greater success rate with tetra fry. I think it's because they could forage when the moon lights were on because the adult fish found it much harder to spot them in that spectrum of light but since I've been using the t5's alone I rarely find any. Though the latter is just a theory and I have no real evidence other than what went on in my aquarium to back it up?

Every kit I come across says the following...

" you need a power inverter to convert AC 220V to DC 12v for the strip light; for internal or external car user, no power interter is needed.
The LED strips do not require any resistors. They are ready to work on any 12 volt power source."

Which might as well be a different language to me

Basically what it says is you need a 12v power supply if you want it to run off the mains you need an inverter like the one linked to below, but things like cars and computer already provide a 12v supply so you can just wire them up.

And 12v is a fairly safe so don't worry too much.

If what you buy is listed as for aquarium use then it may already have a DC socket for the plug listed to above, you are best to contact the seller about this although its not always easy with UK power sellers based in Hong Kong...

But if it doesn't come with a socket you simply need to cut the DC plug

off the inverter linked above and wire it to what you receive using a terminal block

Usually the cable you will receive will be long enough to mean this connection can be far awway from water and terminal blocks cost pennies so it isn't great expense.

Are you in the UK? Ive seen loads on ebay that are plug and play

It would cost you £20 all in

But this has the plug on already

Lol as above, normally if you type in adapter with the word led strip you get some good results, couldnt find cheaper than bae's

OoOOOooO - added to watch list, thank you! I am a bit greedy with looking at my fish and want to have the light on all the time but now that I'm going planted I know this may cause me problems. This may be a compromise option for me :D

I really and truly appreciate the help here

Though the thing is, I need two 48 led strips for my juwel 180. One strip is a waste of time because no matter where you place it their will be no moon light affect, just a very very faint hue. I have tried it and the result was extremely poor. I have also had the "2"x48 and got the desired moon light affect.

So to clarify I'm in the market for 2x48 led moons plug and play. But again, thanks for the help so far I'm hopeful that I'll find a solution to this soon.

I think the point was you could buy two...

To be honest its going to be cheaper, more flexible and you'll actually get what you want if you buy the components seperatly.

Bare in mind too LEDs are not all equal, if the ones you have now are fairly old or even just a different type what you buy this time round could be an awful lot brighter

Maybe contact the ebay sellers? Im not sure I see your problem with having two strips? What about asking for 1 96led strip, they bend pretty well

Hey guys

A couple of things if I may, I have contacted a few of the sellers and so far no response which is unusual. I think that perhaps some of them are in foreign countries and only have the add in english? but that's just a theory. I could buy two but that means more expense because I'd have to get two timers and an even bigger multi plug. But If I can't find any then perhaps that'll be my only option...

What are the alternatives you'd recommend. And also, I'm really puzzled as to why nobody sells "2"x48 strips anymore? When I first got my led kit they were on ebay being offered through some of the same sellers who still have shops on ebay today. Yet, now they have all seemingly vanished? Perhaps there is a ban on selling them or something because of safety concerns.

I would just reckon the demand wasn't there, hopefully you'll get a reply.

Not sure how safe it is but what about a double adapter on one timer?

The plugs are oddly shaped so even with the adapter plug they wont fit because of the huge overlap.

Poor me
